As you know, Buddhism is a kind of answer to questions
raised by the causes and conditions of life. Siddhartha himself,
even though he was born a prince, like us had to confront
the problems of human life (death, illness, aging, etc.) indifferently
to social status. And so he began to ponder the meaning of
life and he was set on finding the answer. And during what
can be called a period similar to our own “New Age”,
Buddha turned to teachers, doctors and pundits to find a solution
to ending human suffering but to no avail. he did, however,
become an expert in various meditative techniques such as
yoga, and didn’t give up his search for the meaning
of human existence. He realized that these methods were insufficient
because they weren’t able to eliminate suffering from
the body and mind. He then decided that to find the way to
eliminate suffering, he had to find peace within and he began
to look inside himself. He understood that the reason for
his suffering was inside his own head because his mind created
many illusions and deceptions, including disturbing emotions
that often worry and torment us, such as jealousy, aversion
and attachment. Even after finding ways of dismissing these
mental defects, Buddha realised that they easily returned.
Through deeper analysis, he came to the conclusion that attachment
and aversion were principally at the root of the problem.
